Staring at ribs on sale at the supermarket? Wondering if it’s worth the energy to cook them…on a weeknight?
Fresh ribs can be a great buy. When on sale you often get more food for your money compared to pre-cooked ribs in a box. But does that automatically make them the better weeknight decision?
I put this question to the test.

What I Used…
Honey-Apricot Glazed Ribs Marinade
Orange juice– 1/3 cup
Apricot Jam – 2 tbsp.
Garlic – 1 clove
Honey – 2 tbsp.
Dijon – 1 tsp.
Balsamic Vinegar – 1 tbsp.
To Cook: Poured the marinade in a roasting pan. Set the pork back ribs in the marinade, bone-side up, covered with foil and cooked in a 350°F oven for an hour. Finished them on the grill, while basting with leftover marinade from the pan.

What I Found
After Making on a Weeknight.
✅ The marinade tasted really good!
❌ Needed more time to marinate (as in overnight)
❌ Felt rushed (It almost didn’t end well…see video below ⬇️)
✅ More food to economically feed family compared to boxed version
❌ Easy, but not a last minute meal

Dinner Decision
Fresh Ribs → Better to schedule on the weekend when there’s time to marinate and no rush.
Boxed Ribs → Smart weeknight solution when craving ribs, but won’t feed more than two people.
So if it’s Tuesday and dinner is already feeling like one more thing on your list?
Don’t feel guilty about choosing the box.
Sometimes convenience isn’t the lazy choice.
It’s the smart choice.
